Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction Project (UPPRP)3

UPPRP was the extended version or the second phase of the LPUPAP that planned to incorporate the extremely poor in their target groups. Moreover, the coverage of the project was also extended to services like housing apart from infrastructure. It also aimed at carrying forward different activities implemented during the LPUPAP phase. Having started the implementation in 2007, the project intended to provide services to around 30 lakh people who lived under the extreme poverty line, comprising women and girls. One of the prime features of the project was that it intended to augment the process of poverty eradication by trailing strategies that would enable poor families to build the resources, knowledge and skills through which they could increase their income and assets. UPPR also intended to contribute to the process of urban poverty reduction through providing direct employment to the urban poor in local industries and businesses, by supporting community entrepreneurs with technology transfers, targeted to improve methods of production and marketing, and by inspiring “backyard production” of urban and peri-urban food and meat (Retrieved from http://webapps01.un.org/nvp/frontend!policy.action?id=192; on 23/04/2017).
